For domestic students, especially those at the University of Alberta, the best path to graduate school is to consider doing an NSERC USRA. These typically require a GPA of 3.7 or above. If you are interested in applying for an NSERC USRA with my lab, please email in before January so we can plan for the application.

The most important criteria for acceptance into the lab is attitude and general competence. I expect most graduate applicants to have a high undergraduate GPA (except for some universities where this is difficult to obtain). It is ok if you are not yet knowledgeable in reinforcement learning, but I do expect you to come in with programming skills, some machine learning background, some mathematical background, and ability to work and make decisions under uncertainty (which is what research is all about).

In your email, if you are able, I encourage you to read one of my papers and give comments/criticisms on it as well as express any interest you might have in following up on that line of work.
